Stitch on Saturday

Stitch on Saturday

Thank you to all who helped arrange this wonderful day. Everyone enjoyed spending time together whilst stitching, chatting and eating cake – and there was such an amazing array of delicious cakes from which to choose for our Afternoon Tea.

Gwenda made a chocolate cake for Helen – so we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and of course helped eat her special cake on which was placed real primroses which had been crystalized.

At the start of the meeting we were able to see all the Ruby Bunting which had been stitched – a beautiful display indeed and so many different designs.

A table was set up for the City and Guilds members during the morning – best wishes for this new initiative – I’m sure you’ll all thoroughly enjoy working towards your goal – we all look forward to seeing your progress during the months ahead.

Of course the Sales Table was amazing… so very full of delightful goodies which we have to buy to bring home to add to our stash of ‘stuff’. Thanks go to Trish for arranging this for us all to enjoy.

Events like this do not happen without lots of hard work – too many names to mention but you know who you are….so thanks again for a wonderful day and I know we’re all looking forward to the next SoS during the summer.

Stitch, Chat and Cake

Such a lovely day was had by all at Hertfordshire branch of The Embroiderers Guild today. ‘Stitch on Saturday’ is so very popular that there was just about enough room for everyone to find a table and chair!

This amazing chocolate cake, with real Primroses which Gwenda had crystalized, was delicious.

Looking forward to the next SoS meeting…

Boro - Threads of Life

I visited this wonderful exhibition at Somerset House today. It presents a stunning collection of rare Japanese indigo patched textiles.

Many years ago Japanese peasant farmers patched, darned and patched again to keep their coats intact – a poignant story – these much weathered garments are now portrayed as abstract art.

The exhibition is free and photography is allowed.

I then visited The Courtauld Gallery where I found two wonderful Renaissance Cassone, wedding chests, items I am researching at the moment. This is another gallery well worth visiting whilst in the grounds of Somerset House. Jill
